Autohide Bar

by Mohamed Elmorsy

The plugin is a straightforward QML service that toggles the Omarchy bar's visibility based on edge hover, popout state, and empty workspaces. No obfuscation, destructive commands, or credential access were found; the only minor issue is a mismatched copyright name in the MIT license.

  • The LICENSE file credits 'Carmelo Rositano' while the manifest author is 'Mohamed Elmorsy'; this is a licensing/attribution inconsistency, not a security issue.
  • The plugin sets bar.barHidden = true on startup and manipulates exclusion zones, which is expected behavior for an autohide bar but could briefly affect window management if the shell API changes.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

omarchy-autohide-bar

A lightweight Omarchy / Quickshell service plugin that automatically hides the bar when it is not in use and reveals it on demand.

Supports all bar positions (top, bottom, left, right) and works across multiple monitors — hovering any screen edge reveals the bar on every screen.

Installation

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/mohamed8eo/autohiden-bar.git --enable

Then reload the shell:

omarchy-shell reload

Core behavior

  • Hidden by default — the bar starts hidden when the shell loads.
  • Edge hover reveal — move the pointer to the screen edge where the bar sits (a 1px trigger strip) to show it.
    • Top bar: hover the top 1px of the screen
    • Bottom bar: hover the bottom 1px
    • Left bar: hover the left 1px
    • Right bar: hover the right 1px
  • Auto-hide — the bar hides after you leave both the trigger edge and the bar itself.
  • Popout aware — the bar stays visible while a bar menu or panel popout is open.
  • Empty workspace — the bar stays visible when the focused workspace has no windows.

Configuration

All timing options live at the top of Service.qml:

readonly property int hideDelayMs: 300 // wait before hiding (milliseconds)
readonly property int pollIntervalMs: 50 // how often visibility is checked

Make hide/show feel slower

Increase hideDelayMs to keep the bar visible longer after you move the pointer away. Good starting values:

Feel hideDelayMs
Snappy (default) 300
Relaxed 600–1000
Very slow 1500–3000

Example — wait 1 second before hiding:

readonly property int hideDelayMs: 1000

After editing, reload the shell:

omarchy-shell reload

Make hide/show look smoother (slide animation)

The plugin toggles Omarchy’s barHidden flag, which moves the bar off-screen instantly by changing panel margins. There is no built-in slide animation in this plugin.

If you want a visible slide/fade instead of an instant pop:

  1. Hide delay (above) — often enough; a short pause before hiding feels much less abrupt even without animation.
  2. Omarchy bar margins — smooth motion would require a NumberAnimation (or similar) on the bar panel margins in Omarchy’s Bar.qml. That lives in the shell, not in this plugin. A typical starting point is duration: 250–400 with Easing.OutCubic.
  3. Hyprland — layer-surface animations depend on your compositor settings; they may not animate bar margin changes.

This plugin controls when the bar hides; Omarchy controls how it moves on screen.
