This is a straightforward currency converter overlay that fetches exchange rates from a public API, caches them locally, and copies results via wl-copy. The code is clean, uses safe shell invocation, and writes only to its own cache file.

How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Install
$ omarchy plugin add https://github.com/hegge25/omarchy-currency --enable
Productivity #quickshell #launcher

Currency

A currency converter for the Omarchy shell. Open a bar like the app launcher, type 500 usd, get the answer. One line, nothing else.

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/hegge25/omarchy-currency.git --enable
omarchy restart shell

Then bind a key in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua:

o.bind("SUPER + CTRL + M", "Currency converter",
  "omarchy-shell shell toggle hector.currency")

Hyprland reloads on save. That's the whole setup.

Usage

Type Get
500 usd the amount in your default target currency
500 usd to eur an explicit target
50 eur in gbp, 300 eur -> gbp, 500 usd > sek same thing, other separators
$500, 500 pounds, 50 quid to kr, 100 eur to yen symbols and plain names
5k usd, 2m jpy shorthand amounts
1,500.25 or 1.500,25 either decimal convention

The bar converting 100 usd to the default target currency

Name a target and the answer follows as you type:

The bar converting 100 usd to euro

  • Enter copies the plain number (3224.27) and closes the bar
  • Esc clears the query, then closes
  • Click outside to dismiss

Queries that do not resolve simply show no answer.

Default currencies

Out of the box an unqualified amount converts to DKK, and a DKK amount converts to USD. Change the two lines at the top of Currency.qml:

readonly property string defaultTo: "DKK"
readonly property string defaultFrom: "USD"

Rates

Reference rates come from Frankfurter (European Central Bank data, no API key, no account). They are cached at ~/.cache/omarchy/currency-rates.json and refreshed at most every 30 minutes, so the bar keeps working offline once it has fetched at least once.

The ECB publishes around 16:00 CET on working days and covers 30 currencies — AUD, BRL, CAD, CHF, CNY, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, IDR, ILS, INR, ISK, JPY, KRW, MXN, MYR, NOK, NZD, PHP, PLN, RON, SEK, SGD, THB, TRY, USD, ZAR. No crypto, no live intraday quotes. These are reference rates, not trading rates.

Dependencies

Everything here ships with Omarchy already:

  • curl — fetches the rates
  • wl-clipboard (wl-copy) — the Enter-to-copy shortcut
  • Network access to api.frankfurter.dev on first use

Remove

omarchy plugin remove hector.currency

Then delete the keybinding from ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua. The plugin writes nothing outside its own directory and the rates cache above; it never touches your Omarchy configuration.
