This plugin is a minimal, well-documented derivative of Omarchy's first-party lock screen that only removes keyboard-backlight handling from the idle/wake paths. The sampled QML code shows no obfuscation, no network access, no credential exfiltration, and no destructive commands; it relies solely on Omarchy-bundled utilities and standard PAM authentication. The deterministic scan found no issues, and the README's install instructions are ordinary plugin-manager commands, not curl-pipe installs.

  • As a lock-screen replacement, any bug could theoretically affect lock reliability, but no such defect is evident in the sampled code.
  • The plugin intentionally disables keyboard-backlight auto-blanking, which is a documented behavior change rather than a security issue.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Manual Backlight Lock

A drop-in replacement for the Omarchy lock screen where the keyboard backlight stays under your control while the screen is locked.

Everything else is the stock Omarchy session lock (Quickshell, password + fingerprint PAM, blurred wallpaper, idle display blanking).

The problem this fixes

On the stock Omarchy lock screen (omarchy.lock):

  • After 5 seconds of inactivity, it force-kills the keyboard backlight.
  • On every input (mouse move, click, keypress), it "restores" a previously saved brightness value.

Together these undo any manual toggle made from the lock screen. On laptops like the Lenovo LOQ this means:

  • Morning: you cannot turn the keyboard backlight on — your toggle keeps getting reverted to the stale saved state (0).
  • Night: you cannot turn it off — the wake handler relights it right after you kill it.

This plugin removes both keyboard-backlight interventions with a two-line change. Display blanking/waking behaves exactly as stock.

What changed vs stock omarchy.lock

Handler Stock This plugin
Idle blank (5 s) omarchy-brightness-keyboard off; omarchy-brightness-display off omarchy-brightness-display off
Wake on input omarchy-system-wake (display on + keyboard backlight restore) omarchy-brightness-display on

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/ADIBAINS/omarchy-manual-backlight-lock.git --enable
omarchy restart shell

Installing automatically disables the built-in omarchy.lock service (via Omarchy's clonedFrom mechanism) and routes lock IPC calls to this plugin.

Remove

omarchy plugin remove io.github.adibains.manual-backlight-lock
omarchy restart shell

The stock lock screen takes over again.

Behavior notes / trade-offs

  • Keyboard backlight no longer auto-blanks after 5 idle seconds on the lock screen. Turn it off with Fn+Space before walking away if you want it dark.
  • Waking from system suspend can still restore the keyboard backlight once (that path lives in hypridle's after_sleep_cmd, outside the lock plugin).
  • The plugin tracks Omarchy's first-party lock code; re-check for updates after major Omarchy releases.

Requirements

  • Omarchy 4.x (Quattro shell / Quickshell)
  • Uses only commands bundled with Omarchy itself: omarchy-brightness-display. No extra dependencies, no install hooks, nothing runs at install time beyond file placement and manifest validation.
