The plugin is a straightforward RGB controller for Acer Nitro keyboards: it writes small fixed-size payloads to /dev/acer-gkbbl-* and persists settings in the user state directory. The only system-level action is an automatic, failure-tolerant `modprobe facer` attempt on load and every 30 seconds, which is consistent with the plugin's stated purpose and harmless if the module is absent. No obfuscation, network access, credential handling, or destructive commands were found.

  • Service.qml runs `modprobe facer` automatically on startup and every 30 seconds; this is a privileged system command, though it is wrapped with `|| true` and only loads the expected kernel module.
  • The plugin writes directly to /dev/acer-gkbbl-0 and /dev/acer-gkbbl-static-0; this is intended functionality but assumes the facer device nodes are trustworthy and properly permissioned.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Nitro Keyboard

Site: aryagorjipour.com
Plugin id: io.github.aryagorjipour.nitro-keyboard

Omarchy Quattro bar plugin for Acer Nitro 5 four-zone RGB keyboards (tested on Nitro AN515-55).

Stock Arch / acer_wmi does not expose RGB. This plugin talks to /dev/acer-gkbbl-0 from facer (facer.ko).

Requirements

  • Omarchy Quattro (omarchy-shell)
  • Acer Nitro with WMI GUID 7A4DDFE7-5B5D-40B4-8595-4408E0CC7F56
  • facer.ko loaded, with /dev/acer-gkbbl-0 and /dev/acer-gkbbl-static-0
  • Python 3 (stdlib only)

facer.ko is a separate kernel module. After a kernel update, rebuild it. This plugin does not install or overwrite kernel modules, Hyprland config, or shell.json unless you enable it yourself.

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Aryagorjipour/nitro-keyboard.git --enable
omarchy bar move io.github.aryagorjipour.nitro-keyboard --section right

Use

  • Click the keyboard icon on the bar to open the panel.
  • Scroll the icon to change brightness.
  • Pick a NitroSense mode: Static, Breath, Neon, Wave, Shifting, Zoom, or Off.
  • Set color with hue chips, a #RRGGBB field, or a saved palette (right-click a palette chip to remove it).
  • Set as default stores the current mode, color, brightness, and speed.
  • Night window applies the current settings in a time range (for example 20:00 → 07:00).

Settings live in ~/.local/state/omarchy/keyboard-rgb.json, not in Hyprland config.

Remove

omarchy plugin remove io.github.aryagorjipour.nitro-keyboard --yes

That disables the widget and deletes the plugin checkout. It does not unload facer.ko and does not delete ~/.local/state/omarchy/keyboard-rgb.json. Remove that file yourself if you want a clean slate:

rm -f ~/.local/state/omarchy/keyboard-rgb.json

Development

ln -sfn ~/Projects/nitro-keyboard ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/io.github.aryagorjipour.nitro-keyboard
omarchy-shell shell rescanPlugins
omarchy plugin enable io.github.aryagorjipour.nitro-keyboard --section right
omarchy plugin validate ~/Projects/nitro-keyboard

License

MIT. facer.ko remains a separate project; this plugin only writes to its userspace devices.
