Manual review found no hidden installer, no network calls, no obfuscation, and no unsafe command construction: shell arguments are quoted, find commands are timeout-capped, and paths are confined to TRY_PATH with symlink/escape checks. The low rating reflects the plugin’s intended, user-confirmed ability to permanently delete selected directory trees, not a discovered vulnerability.

  • Deleting a try recursively removes its directory tree; this requires a confirmation step, but if TRY_PATH is misconfigured to a broad directory it could allow deletion of more than just experiment folders.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Install
$ omarchy plugin add https://github.com/bhanuprassad/omarchy-try --enable
Productivity #quickshell #launcher

Try

A fullscreen overlay for dated experiment directories on Omarchy Quattro.

Type to filter. Enter opens that try in a new terminal. Type a new name and press Enter (or Ctrl-T) to create YYYY-MM-DD-your-idea. Same directory convention as try: $TRY_PATH or ~/src/tries.

This is a picker, not a Redis client, and it does not run the try TUI. It reads the folders itself and launches xdg-terminal-exec.

Install

Review the source first. Plugins run unsandboxed inside the long-lived Omarchy shell.

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/bhanuprassad/omarchy-try.git --enable

Summon it:

omarchy-shell shell toggle io.github.bhanuprassad.try '{}'

Suggested Hyprland bind in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua:

hl.bind("SUPER + SHIFT + T", hl.dsp.exec_cmd([[omarchy-shell shell toggle io.github.bhanuprassad.try '{}']]), { description = "Try" })

Prefill a query:

omarchy-shell shell summon io.github.bhanuprassad.try '{"query":"redis"}'

Usage

Key Action
Type Filter
↑ / ↓, Ctrl-P / Ctrl-N Move
Enter Open the selected try, or create it
Ctrl-T Create from the current filter
Ctrl-D or Delete Delete the selected try (confirm)
Esc Clear the filter, then close

Existing directories sort by recency, with a boost for date-prefixed names. Opening a try touches it so it floats to the top next time.

Configure

No settings panel. One environment variable:

export TRY_PATH=~/src/tries

The overlay creates that directory on first open if it is missing. Removing the plugin does not delete your tries.

Remove

omarchy plugin remove io.github.bhanuprassad.try

Dependencies

  • Omarchy Quattro (omarchy-shell, qs.Commons, qs.Ui)
  • xdg-terminal-exec (Omarchy default terminal launcher)
  • GNU find (with -printf)
  • GNU coreutils (mkdir, touch, rm, realpath, head, and timeout)

The try CLI is optional. If you already use it, this overlay sees the same folders.

The plugin does not install packages, add hooks, or make network calls. Directory discovery uses a 5-second find -type d scan with a 1-second TERM-to-KILL grace period, and directory symlinks are not treated as tries. Output is capped at 64 KiB and parsing retains at most 200 entries. A non-loading filesystem watcher only triggers that bounded scan; it does not enumerate or retain directory entries.
