The plugin fetches ISS position data from a public API and optionally launches mpv to stream a live feed. It uses bounded output buffers and no shell interpolation, and all network calls are to expected endpoints. No malicious behavior was found.

How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

ISS Tracker

An Omarchy shell plugin that watches where the International Space Station is right now, notifies you when it passes over your location, and shows a live external-camera view straight from the cupola.

preview

Features

  • Bar widget with a Nerd Font satellite icon; shows the current distance while the ISS is above your horizon.
  • Desktop notification when a pass begins (once per pass — no spam).
  • Panel with an embedded, always-muted live preview that plays whenever the panel is open (resolved via yt-dlp, decoded by Qt Multimedia/FFmpeg), plus distance, altitude, speed, ground point, pass status.
  • Pop-out with sound: buttons in the panel launch the stream in an mpv window (floating or fullscreen) via mpv + yt-dlp.
  • Left click: panel · Right click: floating live view with sound.

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/diegopluna/omarchy-iss-tracker.git --enable

Then place the widget on your bar:

omarchy bar put io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker --after omarchy.weather

Dependencies

curl, mpv, yt-dlp, notify-send (all preinstalled on Omarchy), plus qt6-multimedia (already required by the Omarchy shell) for the embedded preview.

Location

The tracker reuses the built-in Weather widget's location from ~/.local/state/omarchy/settings/weather.json. If nothing is configured there, it falls back to an approximate IP-based location via wttr.in. Set a precise location by clicking the location name inside the Weather widget.

ISS position data: wheretheiss.at — polled every 30 seconds.

Configure

Widget settings live in your bar layout (~/.config/omarchy/shell.json) and are managed through omarchy bar set:

# Notify radius in km (default 1500). The horizon for the ~420 km orbit is
# about 2200 km, so larger values change little.
omarchy bar set io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker radiusKm 800

# Alternative livestream URL (any YouTube live stream mpv can play)
omarchy bar set io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker streamUrl "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<id>"

Shell commands

omarchy-shell shell summon io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker '{}' # open the panel
omarchy-shell shell hide io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker # close it
omarchy-shell shell summon io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker '{"function":"watch"}' # open live view

Remove

omarchy plugin remove io.github.diegopluna.iss-tracker

Files
