The plugin is a markdown editor and widget system for the Omarchy desktop. The code is transparent, well-structured, and performs only expected file operations within the user's home directory. The install script and helper binaries are straightforward and do not contain any hidden or destructive actions.

  • The plugin registers itself as the default handler for .md files, which changes system behavior, but this is clearly documented and is a normal part of the plugin's functionality.
  • The install script copies files and updates MIME databases, which is standard for such plugins and does not pose a security risk.
  • The pinmark-save helper writes files to user-selected paths, which is expected for a save operation.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Install
$ omarchy plugin add https://github.com/maiosx/pinmark-omarchy --enable
Productivity #quickshell

Pinmark

Markdown, pinned to your Omarchy desk.

A full markdown editor that appears from the Hide button, with parchment widgets you can pin on top of the editor. Built as an Omarchy shell plugin for Arch Linux.

Install (Arch / Omarchy)

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/maiosx/pinmark-omarchy.git --enable
omarchy-restart-shell

That registers the service (widgets + editor). For the bar icon, add the widget from the bar customization UI, or put { "id": "io.github.maiosx.pinmark" } in a bar.layout section of ~/.config/omarchy/shell.json.

Manual copy

If you already have the files:

chmod +x install.sh
./install.sh
omarchy-restart-shell

install.sh copies the plugin into ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/io.github.maiosx.pinmark, installs pinmark-open, and registers Pinmark as the default app for .md files.

Markdown files

Opening a .md file (double-click, xdg-open note.md, or pinmark-open note.md) loads it in the Pinmark editor.

pinmark-open ~/notes/draft.md

Remove

omarchy plugin remove io.github.maiosx.pinmark
omarchy-restart-shell

Notes live in ~/.local/state/omarchy/pinmark.json; delete that file too if you don't want them back.

No extra packages — Omarchy's shell (Quickshell/Qt) is enough.

Use

Board menu Click the bar icon
New widget New in the board menu
Hide / show editor Hide / Show, or right click the bar icon
Hide sidebar Editor Hide sidebar — desktop title bar
Cheat sheet Help — drops a widget listing the syntax
Edit in widget Click the widget body
Full editor Show the editor; pick a document in the sidebar
Render Click away, or Esc
Tick a box Click ☐ / ☑
Pin to desk Editor Pin to desk — puts the open document on the wallpaper
Delete Editor Delete — next to Pin to desk. Removes the open document
Save Editor Save — next to Delete. Picks a .md path in a system dialog
Fullscreen Editor Fullscreen — top right of the title bar. Esc or the button exits
Close a widget Close in the widget header — document stays in the editor
Move Drag the widget header — across monitors too
Resize Drag the corner grip

Hide folds only the editor. Widgets stay on the desk. Pinned widgets sit on the editor; unpinned widgets live on the wallpaper.

Markdown

Bodies are CommonMark, rendered by Qt: headings, bold, italic, code, quotes, tables, lists, links.

Checklists are - [ ] / - [x], and ticking a box in the rendered view rewrites the markdown underneath.

The editor toolbar wraps the usual marks (bold, italic, headings, lists, tasks, links) without round-tripping the source through the renderer.

Storage

~/.local/state/omarchy/pinmark.json, written 400ms after the last edit. Edit it with the shell stopped — the plugin owns the file while running.

Hyprland

layerrule = ignorezero, pinmark-widget
layerrule = blur, pinmark-widget
layerrule = ignorezero, pinmark-pinned
layerrule = blur, pinmark-pinned
layerrule = ignorezero, pinmark-editor

Unpinned widgets use namespace pinmark-widget on the Bottom layer. Pinned widgets use pinmark-pinned on Overlay (above the editor). The editor uses pinmark-editor on Top.
