omarchy-wayvnc
A bar widget for Omarchy that shows whether wayvnc is running, lists connected VNC clients, and lets you start, stop, or disconnect them — no terminal required.
Claude code was heavily used in making of this plugin!
<img src="preview.png" alt="The WayVNC popup panel, showing status and a Start wayvnc button" width="456">Features
- One icon in the bar: dimmed when wayvnc is stopped, highlighted in your theme's accent color when it's running.
- Click opens a popup with the current status, the list of connected VNC clients (address, with a disconnect button per client), and a Start/Stop button.
- Right-click skips the popup and toggles wayvnc directly — starts
wayvncor gracefully stops it withwayvncctl wayvnc-exit. - Status and the client list are polled from wayvnc's own control socket
every 5 seconds, so both stay correct even if wayvnc was started, stopped,
or connected to from outside the widget — another terminal,
wayvncctl, or a crash. - Desktop notification on start/stop.
- Scriptable over Omarchy's IPC:
omarchy-shell leonardom011.wayvnc status # running | stopped omarchy-shell leonardom011.wayvnc start omarchy-shell leonardom011.wayvnc stop omarchy-shell leonardom011.wayvnc toggle omarchy-shell leonardom011.wayvnc panel # open/close the popup
Requirements
wayvncinstalled and onPATH(wayvncctlships alongside it).- A working
~/.config/wayvnc/config(address, port, TLS certs, auth). This widget runs plainwayvncwith no arguments, so it always uses whatever config you already have — it does not manage or generate one for you.
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/leonardom011/omarchy-wayvnc.git
omarchy plugin enable leonardom011.wayvnc
Plugins land disabled so you can read the code before it runs — it runs
unsandboxed inside omarchy-shell, like every Omarchy plugin. Setup ›
Plugins does the same thing from the menu.
The icon appears at the right end of the bar by default. Move it with:
omarchy bar move leonardom011.wayvnc --section right
Uninstall
omarchy plugin remove leonardom011.wayvnc
This only removes the bar widget. If wayvnc happens to be running at the
time, stop it first (click the icon or wayvncctl wayvnc-exit) — removing
the widget does not kill an already-running wayvnc process.
Notes
- This is a manual toggle, not a service manager. wayvnc is launched detached
from
omarchy-shell, so it keeps running acrossomarchy restart shell— but it will not auto-start on login or auto-restart after a reboot or crash. Wire it into a systemd user service if you want that. - Runs unsandboxed like any Omarchy plugin. It only ever calls
wayvncandwayvncctl— readBarWidget.qmlbefore enabling if you want to verify that yourself.
