The plugin fetches Formula 1 race data and weather from public APIs, caches it locally, and displays it in a bar widget. The code is clean, uses bounded parsing and safe atomic file writes, and contains no obfuscation or hidden behavior. The only inherent risk is that it runs unsandboxed in the shell process, which is expected for Omarchy plugins and is clearly disclosed in the README.

  • The plugin makes network requests to external APIs (Jolpica, Open-Meteo) and writes a cache file, but these are expected and bounded.
  • Runs unsandboxed in the shell process, but the code is straightforward and does not perform any destructive or credential-related operations.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Install

Widgets #bar #system

Next Race for Omarchy

An Omarchy bar widget that shows the next race weekend on your bar. The pill displays a live countdown to the next session; clicking it opens a panel with the race details, weekend schedule, track map, and current weather conditions at the circuit. You can toggle between local and track time for all session times.

Currently only supports Formula 1 races.

Next Race panel in the Omarchy bar

Requirements

  • Omarchy with the Quattro shell plugin system
  • An internet connection for race data (cached on disk for offline use)

Install

Review the source before installing. Omarchy plugins run as unsandboxed code inside the long-running shell process.

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/salmun-nister/omarchy-next-race.git --enable

The widget is placed in the center bar section by default. If it was installed without --enable, enable it later:

omarchy plugin enable salmun-nister.next-race --section center

Usage

  • Left-click the pill to open or close the race panel.
  • Middle-click the pill to refresh data.
  • In the panel, the weekend schedule highlights the next session and dims past sessions.
  • Toggle between local time and track time using the time display below the track map. Click on the time you'd like to use, or click the clock icon to toggle.
  • During the off-season, the widget shows the first race of the next season.

Update

omarchy plugin update salmun-nister.next-race

Remove

omarchy plugin remove salmun-nister.next-race

Removal deletes only the plugin checkout and removes the widget from the Omarchy bar configuration. It does not remove any other data, so two files are left in ~/.local/state/omarchy/settings/:

  • next-race.json — the offline race calendar cache, used when the network is unreachable.
  • next-race-settings.json — no longer read or written since 1.1.8, and safe to delete.

Future Considerations

  • Support additional racing series.
  • Generate circuit geometry data at run-time when new tracks are added (currently requires a manual build step and plugin update).
