The plugin is a game launcher that runs user-selected executables via Proton/Wine, which is expected functionality. The deterministic scan flagged a single low-severity obfuscation finding, but the snippet is a legitimate ELF magic check used for icon extraction, not malicious code. The bridge code includes path sanitization and registry size limits, indicating reasonable defensive practices.

  • The plugin launches arbitrary executables selected by the user via Proton/Wine; this is inherent to its purpose and requires user consent.
  • The bridge uses subprocess to run external tools (e.g., magick, icoutils, umu-run) with user-supplied paths; while paths are sanitized, a malicious game executable could potentially exploit the launcher environment.
  • The deterministic scan flagged an octal/hex escape sequence in the bridge, but it is a legitimate ELF magic check for icon extraction, not obfuscation.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

Salted Atom

Windows game launcher for the Omarchy shell — add .exe games with your system file picker and launch them through Proton. No Steam client required.

Features

  • + button opens the native file picker to add any Windows game executable
  • Grid of game cards with icons extracted from each exe and the name underneath
  • Click a card to launch through Proton via umu-run (falls back to direct Proton or wine)
  • Per-game wine prefixes under ~/.local/share/salted-atom/
  • Proton build selector (cycles builds found in Steam's compatibilitytools.d)
  • Search/filter, hover-to-remove, launch logs in ~/.local/share/salted-atom/logs/

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/salted-sorbet/salted.atom.git

Dependencies

Recommended:

omarchy pkg add umu-launcher icoutils
Package Purpose
umu-launcher Run Proton outside of Steam (recommended)
icoutils Extract real icons from exes
ImageMagick Placeholder icon fallback

Removal

Remove the plugin from the bar and your config:

omarchy plugin remove salted.atom

Then remove leftover data if you don't plan to reinstall:

rm -rf ~/.local/share/salted-atom

That directory holds the game registry (games.json), extracted icons, launch logs, and per-game wine prefixes. Deleting prefixes also deletes anything stored inside them — game saves that live in drive_c/users/... go with it, so back up saves first if you care about them.
