The plugin is a benign QML bar widget that periodically reads system stats via standard commands (omarchy system stats, nproc, nvidia-smi). No file modifications, network access, or dangerous operations are performed. The code is transparent and matches the documented behavior.

  • Spawns external processes on a timer, but only read-only system queries; no elevated privileges or destructive actions.
How this check works

This review combines the deterministic scan (the rule-based results above) with an independent look at the plugin's code by a language model. The model reads a trimmed sample of the repository's files, the manifest, and the README, then gives a plain-language risk level and a recommendation: install (no notable danger), review (look closer first), or avoid (clearly dangerous).

It runs on the same analyzed commit as the deterministic scan and is strictly advisory — it is not a security guarantee and never blocks a plugin by itself. A human moderator still reviews plugins before they are listed.

omarchy-buddy 🐾

A tiny companion creature that lives in your Omarchy bar and reacts to system stats.

omarchy-buddy faces

Hover him for live stats — cpu % · mem % · vram % — click him to poke (instant refresh). He hops when he's happy, sweats when you're compiling, dozes off when the machine goes quiet, and turns urgent-red when memory runs hot.

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Guts444/omarchy-buddy.git --enable
omarchy bar put sol.buddy --after omarchy.tray # optional: pick his spot

Note: after installing (or updating) a plugin, a shell restart makes sure the fresh code is actually loaded: omarchy restart shell.

The creature

Five moods, evaluated every poll (priority order):

Mood Face Trigger
😶 waking ▄▀█▀▄/▀███▀ first poll, warming up
🥵 hot ▄▀█▀▄/▀▄▀▄▀ memory ≥ 85% (turns urgent-red)
😰 busy ▄▀▄▀▄/▀█▀█▀ load/core ≥ 0.4 or cpu ≥ 65%
😴 sleepy ▄▀▀▀▄/▀▄▄▄▀ load ≤ 0.2 for 60s straight
🙂 happy ▄▀█▀▄/▀▄▄▄▀ everything's fine (hops on arrival!)

Faces are 2-row half-block pixel sprites — crisp at 26px and theme-adaptive (they inherit your bar's colors, no image assets needed).

Configuration (live, no restart)

omarchy bar set sol.buddy calmLoad 0.4 # load/core where he gets stressed
omarchy bar set sol.buddy busyLoad 0.9 # hard ceiling (reserved for future tiers)
omarchy bar set sol.buddy hotMemory 85 # memory % → hot face
omarchy bar set sol.buddy sleepyAfterMs 60000 # quiet ms before dozing
omarchy bar set sol.buddy pollInterval 2000 # poll ms (min 500)

Load is normalized per core (loadavg is a queue length, not a percentage — on a 12-core machine a load of 1.2 is nothing; per-core math makes the mood fair on any hardware).

Requirements

  • Omarchy 4 ("Quattro") with the Quickshell shell
  • nvidia-smi for the vram metric (optional — falls back to load % without it). On machines without it, Buddy stops probing after 3 failures and retries once a minute (or instantly when poked), so no wasted process every poll. Multi-GPU systems show the first GPU's usage.

Rollback

omarchy plugin disable sol.buddy
omarchy plugin remove sol.buddy
